The Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D K Joshi in his message stated that the third phase of lockdown is commencing  from today. Economic and other activities are going to start in Green Zones with ‘Do Gaz ki Doori’ and facilities are also given in areas other than containment zones as well. He added that Despite  decline in  the number of positive COVID cases in the island, it is not the time to be complacent because this will lead to people’s movement and enhance their social contact. Further, he informed that to contain the spread of COVID-19 again in the islands, proper testing and effective quarantine of all the stranded persons returning to mainland is mandatory. He ensured adequate stock of food grains and LPG are available in the islands.

With six  positive cases turning negative,now only one positive case is remaining in the islands. The Directorate of Shipping Services, DSS is in the process to bring natives of the islands back to their homes from Chennai. The DSS is also facilitating the inter-island movement of stranded persons to bring them to Port Blair for an one way journey to Chennai,which is likely to be scheduled on 6th May from either side.
