Food, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Minister Prof K V Thomas has said that efforts are on to bring down onion price to twenty two rupees per kilogram.
In a meet the press programme at Thiruvananthapuram he said that due to market intervention onion price has already come down to twenty five rupees .
State governments will be asked to sell more day to day items through public distribution system.
To work out effective price control mechanism and ensure availability of essential items, zonal meetings of ministers from the southern states in charge of public distribution system will be held on 3rd of next month.
Similar meetings will be held in Delhi, Kolkatta and Mumbai during February.
