    Environment secretary C K Mishra today emphasised the need to sensitise ill effects of single use plastic. Speaking to media in New Delhi before a meeting of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Mr Mishra said, there is a need to talk to people, industry and others to find alternatives to single use plastic. He also emphasised on recycling on whatever plastic being used now.

    Mr Mishra also dwelt upon the challenges and viable solutions to climate change and pointed out that IPCC authors and scientists are working to deliver the most relevant and up-to-date research on climate change mitigation. He said, global coalition on innovation and technology is the way forward.

    India is hosting the Second Lead Author Working Group III Sixth Assessment Report at New Delhi, beginning today. More than 200 experts and authors including 12 from India and others from around 65 countries are expected to participate in this week-long meeting at New Delhi.
    Our correspondent reports, the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) will examine topics such as the link between consumption and behaviour and greenhouse gas emissions, and the role of innovation and technology.

    The IPCC is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide political leaders with periodic scientific assessments concerning climate change, its implications and risks.
