    Published on December 28, 2010

The fasting Congress MPs from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday made it clear that they will not call off their protest until all police cases against the students are withdrawn.

State Social Welfare Minister B Sariah, hailing from Telangana, held talks with fasting MPs Tuesday morning, but they categorically spelt out their intention about not ending their “Satyagraha”.

“We will not call off our Satyagraha till the government withdraws all the cases against the students,” Congress Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao told reporters.

Responding to criticism that Congress MPs are indulging in ‘political posturing’, he said there was no politics involved in the fast, and that it is an effort to bring moral pressure on the government.

The Telangana Congress MPs began their fast on Monday demanding withdrawal of all police cases against the students registered during recent Telangana agitation.

Though the government expressed is readiness to withdraw 135 more cases, in addition to nearly 600 cases withdrawn earlier, the MPs insisted that all cases should be withdrawn forthwith.
