Guwahati :  Fearing threat to life, post the sensational mob lynching case in Karbi Anglong’s Dokmoka, at least 40 cleaning staff working at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) have allegedly left for their respective homes at Karbi Anglong. As per information, a group of unidentified miscreants, since Saturday, have been intimidating a section of people belonging to a particular community inside the hospital premises. Reports further stated that these miscreants even threatened the cleaning staff with dire consequences if they do not vacate the JMCH premises immediately and return back to their homes. Terrified after the threats, the cleaning staff have left for Karbi Anglong, as per reports. On the other hand, Jorhat police have intensified their vigil in and around the hospital in wake of this news. Speaking to TIME8, Superintendent of Police (SP), Jorhat, Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, said, “We have been informed that a group of workers were already about to visit their homes in Karbi Anglong after the payment of their salaries, but the mob lynching incident coincided and hence the number increased to around 40.” Adding, “They are likely to return as they have left their luggage.” While reacting to the reports of life threats given to the staffers, the SP further added, “There are rumors that a section of people has instigated them to leave the hospital premises. We are investigating the matter and have increased the vigil.” Following the Karbi Anglong lynching incident, where two youths from Guwahati were mercilessly killed, the situation is tense across different parts of Assam. In Nagaon, a similar incident was reported on Sunday where hundreds of local youths allegedly stopped all the buses going towards Karbi Anglong besides asking people from a particular community to immediately vacate the region. Later, they were however arrested. In Guwahati as well, two girls were targeted by some miscreants who in a case of mistaken identity harassed them ‘for being from a particular community’. Share this:
