Flooded rivers continue to create havoc and cripple normal life at various places in North India.

The swollen river Sutlej flowing through Firozpur region in Punjab is yet to ebb.

There has been massive loss of property as many villages in the district have been submerged and standing crops have been destroyed.

The water level in Yamuna rose further on Friday due to heavy rains in the city and release of water into the river by Haryana.

The water level, which had crossed the danger mark of 204.83 metres on Friday, has touched 205.84 metres on Friday evening. The water level had come down to 205.77 metres on Thursday night.

Officials from Flood Control Department said water level may go up further as Haryana has released nearly 80,000 cusec water into the river on Friday.

The neighbouring state had released over two lakh cusec water into Yamuna on Wednesday.

Authorities have so far evacuated nearly 2,000 people from low-lying areas along the river and set up 169 relief camps to provide shelter to them.

The city government has already deployed 57 boats, 68 divers and a unit of Disaster Management Force.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had visited various relief camps on Wednesday and instructed officials to ensure availability of food, medicines and proper lighting there.
