  • Food security scheme to cost Rs 2,000cr annually for Maharashtra govt

    ggsMaharashtra government on Friday said that implementation of the Food Security Act in the state from 1st February would put an additional annual burden of Rs 2,000 crore on the exchequer.

    “The state government will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 2,000 crore every year for the implementation of this scheme,” Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh told reporters in Mumbai.

    The ambitious scheme would be unveiled on 31st January by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at Airoli in Navi Mumbai and would be rolled out from February, he added.

    According to the minister, the digitisation work of ration cards is underway and more than 7 crore people in the state would benefit from it.
