  • Food wastage poses economic, moral questions: President

    Published on December 20, 2018

President Ram Nath Kovind has said wastage of food in India poses not just economic questions but also moral ones.

Inaugurating the Platinum Jubilee Conference of the All India Food Processors’ Association in New Delhi on Thursday, Mr Kovind said, India is a country with undeniable inequalities in income and food consumption which needs attention.

The President said the food processing industry has a major role to play in this regard.

It can help build the food value chain by being a bridge between the farmer and diverse and distant markets and can enter into long-term contracts with farmers for specific commodities and items.

The President suggested fixing of the missing links in the farm-to-fork value chain. He said the differential between what the farmers get for their crops and prices that food consumers pay, both within the country and internationally, is substantial.
