The delegation of foreign envoys from Europe and Africa, which is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, was today briefed by top officials of Indian Army and J&K Police about the security situation in the Union Territory. Police sources told source that the envoys were briefed about Indian Army’s role in making terrorists surrender, infiltration from LOC and support of Pakistan Army in infiltration, harbouring terrorists, training camps and seizure of weapons supplied by Pakistan. The envoys were also briefed about the peaceful situation after the abrogation of Article 370, decrease in incidents of stone-pelting and the conduct of peaceful DDC elections in the UT. The delegation was also briefed about various programmes including community engagements, counter-radicalisation also the Indian Army’s role in convincing terrorists to surrender, the police initiatives in sports, employment opportunities, counselling and community bond schemes for potential terrorist recruits.

The delegation is likely to meet the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Justice of J&K High Court, in Jammu later today. They will also meet newly elected DDC members and representatives of some social organisations. Later, the envoys will attend a luncheon meet hosted by Lt. Governor and meet civil society representatives. Yesterday, the envoys met the newly-elected members of the District Development Councils in Srinagar, besides holding a meeting with a few prominent citizens including artisans, sports men and others. Grassroot democracy and decentralisation remained the focus of envoys’ interactions in Srinagar yesterday. They also visited Hazratbal shrine, the holiest and the only domed mosque in Srinagar where they were briefed on its historical significance.
