The Home Minister P Chidambaram has said that the government is not against holding any demonstration or peaceful protest. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr. Chidambaram strongly defended the police decision to take Anna Hazare and six of his associates in preventive custody. He said that around 1,500 people have also courted arrest. Mr. Chidambaram explained the circumstances under which the Delhi Police decided to take Anna under preventive custody. He elaborated that team Anna Hazare did not comply with the conditions set by Delhi Police.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs. Ambica Soni said that the government is aware of the anger among the people on corruption.
