  • Govt schemes helped in economic growth, preservation of culture & connectivity in Majuli: Deva Prasad Mishra

    In Assam, several welfare schemes are being implemented with central assistance under Tribal State Plan at the river island Majuli district.

    The Deputy Commissioner of Majuli, Deva Prasad Mishra said the implementation of government schemes has helped in economic growth, preservation of culture and connectivity in the district.

    Majuli which is considered as one of the prime tourist destinations in North East, has around 47 percent Scheduled Tribe population as per 2011 census.

    Mr. Mishra said that, several rural roads, indoor stadium, parks have been constructed under the Central assistance schemes.

    He said that, in a bid to give rural livelihood, pig breeding scheme is being initiated for Self Help Groups and the process of beneficiary selection is under process.

    The Deputy Commissioner further said that 40 percent work has already been completed under land reclamation and water distribution project at Jengrai Thekeraguri to Kesaikhowa.

    He hoped that the implementation of new schemes would lead to further development of the island district.
