    Guwahati: A total of 644 terrorists from eight banned terrorist organizations surrendered with 177 weapons on Thursday in Assam. The police gave information about it. These militants are members of ULFA (I), NDFB, RNLF, KLO, CPI (Maoist), NSLA, ADF and NLFB. These terrorists surrendered in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at an event here.Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta told reporters that it is an important day for the state and Assam Police. Altogether 644 cadres and leaders of eight terrorist groups laid down their arms. He said that this is one of the biggest surrender of terrorists in recent times. Mahanta further informed that many weapons like AK-47 and AK-56 have been handed over from these terrorists. It is a historic day for Assam. During this time he had told that terrorists have been involved in violent and criminal activities including kidnapping in southern Assam, Mizoram and northern Tripura for the last decade.
