  • Indefinite strike at Bodoland University enters 9th day

    Kokrajhar: Functioning of the  Bodoland University  both academically and non-academically have been severely affected for the 9th consecutive day due to the ongoing indefinite strike by the Bodoland Students Union (BSU) demanding resignation of present acting vice chancellor and appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor in the university which enters 9 day today. Classes and official works have totally stopped due to the strike since the last nine days.

     

    The members of the Bodoland Students Union continue blocking the main gate of the university. President of BSU Swgwmsar Basumatary said the indefinite blockade will continue till their demands are not meet.

     

    Meanwhile a three member inquiry committee team to enquiry into various allegations on irregularities pertaining to administration including appointments, academics including admission, examination an results etc in the Bodoland University had to return back as they were not allowed to enter the university campus by the agitators. The three member enquiry committee was headed by Prof TB Chubba, former vice chancellor of Manipal University Sikkim, Krishna Gohain, Secretary to the Govt of Assam, Higher Education Department and Radhendu Roy Choudhury, executive council representative to the Enquiry committee meet the leaders of the agitators  at the agitation site.

     

    “We have come to do enquiry into various allegations on irregularities in the university but we were not allowed to enter inside the university campus by the  Bodoland Students Union, said Gohain.

     

    Bodoland University Teachers Association have expressed serious concern over the ongoing indefinite strike at the Bodoland University under the banner of Bodoland Students Union stating that the strike is affecting the functioning of the university both academically and non-academically as classes and official works have totally stopped due to the strike.The  Bodoland University Teachers Association urged upon the state government of Assam and the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University  to take up the issue seriously and give a welcoming solution so that the University would be able to maintain normal functioning.

     

    The Bodoland University Teachers Association president Dr Jyotiraj Pathak and secretary Rustom Brahma said such strike badly affects the semester system because there is limited time frame for class transaction in a particular semester period which involves many internal activities too.

     

    ABSU president Pramod Boro too expressed serious concern over the latest development in the University. He demanded immediate intervention of the Assam government to solve the issue and also urged the agitation group to rethink as it’s the students’ community who are suffering because of the strike.

     

    Students and guardians to have expressed concern over the strike.
