  • India, Pakistan to discuss Kartarpur corridor modalities on March 14

    Published on March 13, 2019

The first meeting between India and Pakistan to discuss and finalize the modalities for Kartarpur Corridor will be held at Attari-Wagah (Indian side) on Thursday.

India has also proposed that a technical level discussion on the alignment of the corridor be held on the sidelines of the meeting.

This is being done in keeping with Government’s decision to operationalise the Kartarpur Corridor on the occasion of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and meet the long-pending public demand to have easy and smooth access to the holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib.

Sources said in New Delhi that the Centre has identified 50 acres of land for the Kartarpur Sahib corridor which has immense national importance. This would be developed in two phases.

The Passenger Terminal Building, PTB, the complex will be a state of the art green building and display murals/photographs based on rich Indian cultural values.

The design of PTB complex is inspired by the symbol ‘Khanda’ which symbolizes values of oneness and humanity and the entry gates will be based on the lotus flower.

The building will be differently abled and elderly persons friendly and will cater to the smooth movement of approximately five thousand pilgrims per day to Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

Sources said, the robust security system will be put in place in and around the Passenger Terminal Building. India maintained that security is of paramount interest for the Indian side and discussion with Pakistan tomorrow is only related to pilgrimage to the Kartarpur Sahib.

Sources said, efforts are being made to ensure that phase-I of the Passenger Terminal Building complex is made operational well before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
