  • K’taka govt initiates measures to build confidence among people from NE in state

    The Karnataka government has initiated a number of measures to instill sense of security among the people of North East living in the state. Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka and leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah have asked the people from north-eastern region not to leave Bangalore. State DGP Lalrokhuma Pachau met people from north east in Bangalore and assured them of police protection. Two helpline numbers 080-2225-0999 and 080-2294-2222 have been set up to receive complaints in this regard. Bangalore Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said Mohalla committees have been set up in sensitive areas to patroll the localities inhabited by people from North East.

    Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the people from the northeast region are safe in Karnataka. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, he warned that those spreading rumours will be severely punished.

    Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region, Pawan Singh Ghatowar said that some interested parties appear to be spreading rumours to create panic among the people of North East living in Karnataka.

    Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi appealed to the people of Assam living in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh not to be panic. He said that he is in constant touch with his counterparts in both the states.
