  • Kerala govt to hold all party meet to address ‘Mullapperiyar dam safety’ issue

    Kerala government is holding an all party meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to address the sensitive safety issue of 116 year old Mullapperiyar dam in the state.

    Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that safety issue of the dam has been brought to the notice of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on his visit to Delhi the other day.

    Mr Chandy appealed to Tamil Nadu government to adopt a flexible stand on the issue considering safety of lakhs of people in five districts of Kerala. He said Kerala is prepared to give an undertaking to the Centre or the Supreme Court on the provision of water to Tamil Nadu from a new dam proposed to be built in Mullapperiyar.

    The Chief Minister added that the entire cost of the proposed dam will be met by Kerala.
