Sri Lankan parliament today passed the vote of account to meet government expenditure for the first four months of New Year. The motion was passed with 102 votes in favour and 6 against in 225 member parliament.

The vote of account was necessitated following weeks long political crisis after Ranil Wickremsinghe was removed as Prime minister on October 6th.

Mr. Wickremsinghe government who has been reappointed, said that that they had to resort to present a vote on account due to the recent political turmoil in the country.

Earlier, the budget was scheduled for 6th November but did not happen and a full-fledged budget is expected by end of January. Around 55 percent of total allocation of 1765 billion Sri Lankan rupees has been allotted for debt servicing or interest and premium payment.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister today sought to downplay his differences with President saying while there were some differences of opinion on the Ministerial appointments, he was confident of resolving the issues.

He also criticised the media saying some had reported a ‘fake list’ claiming they were nominated for Ministry portfolios.

President Maithripala Sirisena has reportedly refused to appoint as ministers, his party MPs who switched over to Mr. Wickremsinghe side.
