The last rites of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan will be held this afternoon with full state honours at Janardan Ghat on the banks of Ganga in Patna.

The last journey of the departed leader will begin from his SK Puri residence in Patna. Thousands of people are paying their last respect to the leader of the downtrodden and marginalised lot.  Many people were seen crying and sharing their fond memories of their beloved leader.

Earlier in the morning the mortal remains were taken to the State LJP office where party workers and officials paid their rich tributes.

Ram Vilas Paswan became an iconic leader in Indian politics as he won from Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency eight times between 1977 and 2014. In 1977 and 1980, Paswan had won on a Janata Party ticket. In 1977, he registered a Guinness World Record by winning the election from Hajipur with a margin of 4.24 lakh votes, the maximum margin by any politician in the world. It remained unchallenged for a long time.
