  • Legendary actor Shammi Kapoor cremated

    Family, friends and prominent Bollywood personalities bid a tearful adieu to veteran actor Shammi Kapoor as his mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Banganga crematorium on Monday.

    Adityaraj Kapoor, Shammi’s only son, performed the last rites and was assisted by his son Kunal who arrived from the US.

    The 79-year-old legend died in Mumbai on Sunday due to renal failure.

    The entire Kapoor clan including his grand nephew Ranbir Kapoor, nephews Rishi, Randhir and

    Rajiv and Shammi’s younger brother Shashi Kapoor, who was brought on a wheel chair, were present to pay their last respects.

    Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, accompanied by her father Ashok Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Danny and Shatrughan Sinha were also present along with Fardeen Khan, Tom Alter, Tinnu Anand and industrialist Anil Ambani were also present.

    Filmmakers Satish Kaushik, Sudhir Mishra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Prakash Jha, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ashutosh Gowariker, Ramesh Sippy with son Rohan, Subhash Ghai and Nikhil Advani also paid tributes to the late actor.

    PM condoles death of Shammi Kapoor

    Condoling the death of veteran actor Shammi Kapoor, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said he was an accomplished actor who entertained millions of fans.

    “I am sad to learn of Shammi Kapoor’s demise. He was an accomplished actor who entertained millions and millions of fans in India and abroad. I share his family’s grief,” Singh said in a message on Sunday.

    79 years-old Kapoor, reportedly, was on dialysis for last few days and was admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Mumbai, where he breathed his last on Sunday morning.

    The actor, who made his Bollywood debut in 1953 with the movie ‘Jeevan Jyoti’, carved out a niche for himself with his superhit film Junglee in 1961.

    He is survived by his wife Neela Devi, son Aditya Raj and daughter Kanchan Desai.
