Kokrajhar: Lower Assam Commissioner Meenakshi Sundaram on Monday arrived in Kokrajhar to investigate into the incident of alleged assault by Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh on an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer District Executive Magistrate posted in the district earlier this month.

Upon his arrival in Kokrajhar today, Lower Assam Commissioner first went the Deputy Commissioner office, then the Superintendent of Police office before visiting the Hotel Gaurang Valley where the alleged incident on assault took place on the late evening of September 10, 2019.

According to reports, in a CCTV video which was made public recently by RTI activist Dulal Bora, the SP of Kokrajhar, Rajen Singh was seen dragging and slapping District Executive Magistrate Sailen Das in a hotel at a party which was also attended by many senior officers of the district administration.

The state has directed the commissioner of Lower Assam division to initiate an inquiry into the incident and submit a report by Sep 25.

Talking to Reporters, Lower Assam Commissioner Meenakshi Sundaram said as per the directive of the state government, he has come to Kokrajhar to inquiry about the incident so that an inquiry report can be submitted at the earliest. He said the inquiry will be done in free, neutral and objective and the inquiry will be as per law.

Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh had claimed before the media that the fight between him and executive magistrate Sailen Das doesn’t have any connection with their respective posts or positions and he doesn’t hold any grudge upon the executive magistrate Sailen Das.

“Both of us were hostel mates at Rajanikanta Bordoloi Hostel during our graduation days at Cotton College and the fight doesn’t have any connection to our respective posts,” SP had said to the media.
