  • Maharashtra Government tables Maratha reservation Bill in Assembly

    Published on November 29, 2018

The Maharashtra Government today passed the Maratha reservation bill in the state legislative assembly without any discussion.  The government had earlier proposed to give 16 per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions to the people from the Maratha community. An action taken the report (ATR) in this regard was tabled in the legislative assembly by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Soon after the ATR was tabled in the lower House, legislators from the Maratha community celebrated outside the House by shouting the slogans hailing Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and others.

The Chief Minister also garlanded the statue of Shivaji Maharaj which is installed in the premises of Maharashtra Legislature.

Fadnavis had earlier said that the Maratha community will get the reservation from the Socially and economically backward class category.  Meanwhile, the state Congress has welcomed the tabling of the ATR.
