Guwahati : A group of miscreants hailing from West Bengal are on the prowl in Barpeta. As per reports, these miscreants are keeping a close tab on people coming in and out of the banks and try to flee with the money of the public. Recently, the Barpeta police arrested a miscreant from West Bengal for attempting to rob a State Bank of India (Barpeta branch) customer. As per information, the customer, identified as Kapil Das, had visited the bank to deposit an amount of Rs 2 lakh on June 2. The miscreant, who was also present inside the bank in disguise of a customer, kept a close tab on Das’ activities. While the victim readied the deposition form, the accused, identified as Ritesh Guwala(19), tried to strike a conversation with Das and later tried to divert his attention by pointing towards a Rs 10 note on the floor. When Das turned around to look, the accused taking opportunity of the situation snatched the money bag and tried to flee from the spot. When a panicked Das, a resident of Bahorigaon, raised an alarm, few of the alert customers managed to stop the accused from fleeing and later reported the matter to the police. During police interrogation, it was revealed that the youth hails from Falakata in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. Police have also launched an operation to bust the racket.
