  • More than Rs 3.5 crore drugs seized in Assam, 2 women arrested

    Guwahati: Kamrup police on Sunday recovered drugs worth 3.5 crore rupees in the biggest drug race in Assam. The recovered drugs include 96,350 yaba tablets and 2 kg of brown sugar. In addition, unaccounted cash worth Rs 3.70 lakh was also recovered. Police arrested two women in the case. However, their identity has not been revealed for the sake of investigation.

    They were arrested near assam-Meghalaya border. Appreciating the Kamrup police for the successful operation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on Twitter, “Drive against drugs. Police have made a huge dent in the drugs network today. Now organized cartels are under attack A successful Ops Kamrup police have recovered 1 lakh tablets and 2 KG brown sugar in the international market at a price of Rs 3.5 crore. Assam Police has been escalating its fight against drugs in the state with several arrests as well as major seizures in the last few days.

    Recently, the Chief Minister had said that the state government’s aim is to create a drug free society and assam police is taking strict action against drug trafficking. Since last month, the state police has been widely conducting a drive against the illegal drug trade. So far 6.57 kg heroin, 5,785.85 kg ganja, 92,366 and other tablets) have been seized. Police also recovered Rs 17,11,130. The Chief Minister had tweeted that a drive is being launched against drug smugglers in the state. On the directions of the Chief Minister, the state police is fully active in various districts.
