    Kokrajhar   : The National Girl Child day was celebrated in various part of Kokrajhar in a befitting manner with a day long programme.

    The Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO, celebrated the day at Hotel Gaurang Valley, among the adolescents girl from different parts of the district where over 60 girl child participated. Well-known Bodo film actresses and Youth icons- Helina Daimari, Lipika Brahma and Pansy Brahma attended the programme and interacted with the children.

    The programme was an initiative of Nedan foundation to provide a platform to the most privileged girls and under privileged girls to come in one place and share their experience and to encourage the children to achieve their goals.

    Chairperson of Nedan Foundation Digambar Narzary said every girl should come up for their rights and development. ‘Girls should give importance to education to succeed in their life and to build a carrier in future. They may be not enjoying all the facilities like others in cities or town but should not give that excuse and dropout from educational institutes, he said adding ‘only those who work hard and are determined to achieve their goal succeeds in life’.

     He said that though there is dirt of statistics of the grim situation being faced by adolescents’ girls in Assam and BTAD  in particular, due to the protracted conflict in the region, the likelihood of exploitation, abuse, neglect, school drop-out, and violence against adolescent girls is much higher. He stated that forced migration to the extent of human trafficking in young girls, forced early marriage, rising cases of sexual violence,  forced labor among young girls are some of the major issues being faced by adolescent girls in the region.

    The District Child Protection Unit, Kokrajhar in partnership with the State Child Protection Society, Assam also observed the day among the school children at Kokrajhar Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

     An awareness rally was carried out in KOkrajhar town where over a hundred students participated.  The rally was flag off by the Pranjal Sarma, Asst, Deputy Commissioner (AADC) Kokrajhar district. Chairperson of Child welfare committee Kokrajhar Malati Rani

    Narzary, Child Welfare Committee Kokrahar member Babli Basumatary District Social Welfare officer Gunindra Talukdar were among those present.
