 Mangaldai : The district level celebration of the on-going National Road Safety Month 2021 has been launched here in the district head quarters of Darrang on Wednesday. In this connection Darrang district transport office under the aegis of the district level road safety committee has organized a inaugural public function in the ASTC campus. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest Mangaldai Legislator Gurujyoti Das pointed out that casualties due to road accidents every year in the country is more than the composite figure of deadly diseases including COVID, Cancer and AIDS. Highlighting  major causes of road mishaps like rash driving,  faulty road design , road condition , climate situation etc , Legislator Das said that average seventy percent of the incidents take place due to over speedy rash driving. He further said , ”  Imposition of fines , suspension of driving licenses and other punishment by government law enforcing departments can’t stop rising cases of accidents.

There must be  road safety awareness at all levels of the society which can put brakes on it.’ Earlier in his welcome address District Transport Officer Kumar Sanjib Krishna threw light on the significance of the National Road Safety Month 2021 observed for the first time in stead of the road safety week in previous years and measures taken by them to minimize the road mishaps in the district during his tenure . The objectives of the meeting was explained by MVI Diganta Deka. The meeting conducted by radio announcer was also attended by Dr Budhin Chandra Hazarika, Principal Kharupetia College,  Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border ) ,Darrang Khira Kanta Bora and District Public Relation Officer Manimala Gogoi as the guests . Prior to the inaugural function an awareness motor cycle rally was taken out through out Mangaldai. The rally was flagged by prominent sports organizer and a international veteran athlete Biren Medhi .
