    Published on November 11, 2011

Former President A P J Abdul Kalam on Thursday said he proposed to launch a movement involving youths to fight against corruption.

A corruption-free environment is needed in the country, he told reporters after a function at Baroda Medical College in Vadodara.

“Why are (corrupt) people behind the bars… it is because there are number of laws dealing with the issue of corruption,” he observed without making any remarks on Anna Hazare’s movement against corruption.

Earlier addressing the students of the college, Kalam justified the expenditure being incurred on moon and Mars mission saying there will be need for another habitat after sun stops shining after 5 billion years.

“There is need for linking Earth, Mars and moon,” he said.

Commenting on India’s economic growth Kalam said, “India would emerge to be an economically strong country by 2020 and I have no doubt about GDP touching 10 per cent after some time”.

He also called for change in the syllabus of medical education saying that it should reflect latest development in the medical field.
