Guwahati : The Assam Saseton Nagarik Manch has sought special monitoring by the President of India at the earliest to scan for aliens who might be involved in the updating process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the State. The delegation of Nagarik Manch alleged some infiltrators in Assam were trying to include their names in the NRC by misleading the officials concerned with fake documents.Seeking intervention on that matter, the manch had submitted a memorandum to the President Kovind, which was signed by 25 lakh people in the state. The Supreme Court fixed the deadline for publishing the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) for Assam to July 31.An error-free NRC is the demand of all section of the people of Assam. We would like to thank the Supreme Court of India for its role in the whole procedure. But, there is somewhere a doubt in the minds of the people since many anomalies have been reported in recent times,” SNM convenor Chandan Bhattacharya said, At least 200 people from 39 families in Morigaon district had made their way into the final NRC draft that published on July 30 even as Foreigner’s Tribunal (FT) declared them as foreigners. On June 13, two NRC officials – Syed Shahjahan and Rahul Parasar were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Kajari Ghosh Dutta of Ananda Nagar in Guwahati. “Already we have submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court in the matter. We will appeal the apex court for 100 per cent re-verification of the names included in the NRC,” Bhattacharya further said.
