Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday constituted a committee to identify suitable land in the periphery of the city for developing a modern township.

The committee, headed by J&K principal secretary, has been asked to undertake this task within 15 days, an official spokesman said.

Reviewing the on-going mega projects at a meeting here, Omar said, “focus should be on proper rehabilitation and relocation of people whose residential and commercial structures are acquired for these projects.”

A comprehensive strategy is required to be formulated in this regard, he said, adding that development of modern townships and business malls should be a part of the strategy.

Giving his nod to the proposal for multi-storied parking lots in Srinagar, Omar said in order to decongest city roads it is imperative that there are sufficient parking lots.

On the proposed Rs 243.6-crore four-lane expressway and flyover from Dalgate to Rambagh, he called for integrating the existing flyover with the proposed elevated expressway, making Amira Kadal bridge and airport road its part.

Omar said macadamisation of city roads, for which Rs 60 crore had already been approved, should be completed before October.
