  • Parl adjourns for the day following uproar over 2G issue

    Published on December 8, 2010

Both the houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day on Wednesday following opposition demand for a JPC probe into alleged irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation, leading to washout of the Question Hour for the 19th straight day.

Immediately after Speaker Meira Kumar concluded the reference to the Varanasi bomb explosion and deaths due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Opposition members trooped into the well demanding a JPC probe in the alleged scam.

Congress members countered the Opposition onslaught waving placards ‘Do not denigrate PAC’, a reference to the ongoing examination of the 2G spectrum allocation report of the Comptroller and Auditor General by the Public Accounts Committee.

Members belonging to the BJP, AIADMK, SP and the Left parties kept raising slogans ‘We want JPC’ and the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

Soon after Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari took his seat, opposition members rushed into the well shouting “We Want JPC.”

Ruling Congress members displayed banners reading “Don’t Denigrate PAC”, an apparent reference to the panel headed by BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi looking into the irregularities in 2G spectrum allocation.

Ansari took up the first listed question of the day and asked members not to display posters in the House.

“No posters please,” he appealed to the unrelenting members.

Minutes into the din, Ansari adjourned the House till 1200 hours.
