Preparations for International Day of Yoga to be celebrated on the 21st of this month have picked up momentum. Ranchi has been chosen to organise the main event which will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Over 30 thousand people are expected to participate in the main event which will be attended by several state dignitaries, besides the Yoga Organisations and Yoga Gurus. Mr Modi will also give away Prime Minister’s Yoga Awards for exemplary contribution towards the development and promotion of Yoga. AYUSH Ministry has received about 200 nominations this year.

In Delhi, the main event will be at Rajpath, New Delhi which will be organized by NDMC in association with Ministry of AYUSH. This year, AYUSH Ministry is promoting usage of eco-friendly Yoga products. Since PVC and synthetic based accessories are hazardous and non perishable, the public needs to be sensitized and motivated to use eco-friendly products.

On 11 December 2014, the United Nations had proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga after recognising its universal appeal.   Talked to a cross section of people about how they are embracing Yoga for its innumerable benefits, ranging from tackling mental stress to obesity.
