  • Punjab Assembly holds Special Session to mark 550th Prakash Parab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji

    Punjab Assembly is holding a Special Session today to commemorate the 550th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh are among the main dignitaries attending the session.

    Other dignitaries and eminent personalities have also been invited to attend the Special Session, which would be wholly dedicated to mark the historic day.

    Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has expressed confidence that Kartarpur Corridor will be a corridor to the shrine of peace, harmony and humanism and to the universal vision of a world as one family. He said this while addressing the special session of the Punjab Assembly convened to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

    The Vice President said, Guru Nanak Ji was a great champion of equality and for him the differences and multiple identities based on caste, creed, religion and language were irrelevant.

    He said, Guru Nanak Ji aimed at creating a caste-less society in which there is no hierarchy, in which all are equal and where one member does not exploit the other. He said, the basis for social regeneration advocated by Guru Nanak Dev was essentially spiritual and ethical and for him, action was more important than words.

    Mr Naidu said, the world needs such spiritual leaders, who can engage in a meaningful dialogue to exchange ideas in order to promote peace, stability and cooperation. He said, Guru Nanak’s vision was pragmatic and holistic.

    The Vice President said that as legislatures, we should set an example as to how we can serve the people according to the principles enunciated by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

    The day-long Special Session is being chaired by the Vice President.

    Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Arminder Singh and  Punjab Governor V P  Singh among those who were present on this occasion.
