Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today said, Railway is trying to embrace digital technology in every sphere to keep pace with time. The Minister was speaking at a conference on Digitisation of Railway Supply Chain in New Delhi.

Mr. Prabhu said, integration of front end and back end railway infrastructure through Digital Technology is the only way to improve efficiency and transparency. He added that with digitization of procurement and supply chain railway will move towards efficient practices of resource utilization.

Highlighting the need for streamlining procurement and supply chain through on-line means, Chairman of Railway Board AK Mittal said, the logistic cost in Indian railway is highest among the world. Our Correspondent reports that there is a positive response among the Industries for the initiatives taken recently by the railways.

Business players and people have welcomed the E-platforms such as E-ticketing, Online payment and other digitisation measures of the Government. The proposed Integrated Materials Management System which brings online the 17 railway zones on to one digital platform is expected to be a game changer in ease of doing business and transparency.
