Haflong : As the saying ‘work is worship’ is the prime source of inspiration for the educated youths of Retzawl village located only 16 km from Haflong the district head quarters of Dima Hasao have opted for poultry farming, gardening etc as their source of income to be self employed.

Many opined that the name of the village ‘Retzawl’ literally means ‘rubber plants’ was established not less than 250 years back but failed to draw the kind attention of the concerned authority to ease their sufferings perhaps due to indifference attitude of the authority. This indifferent attitude of the concerned authority has compelled them to take up self-employment gardening and farming. 

To encourage the youths in farming Gaon Bura of the village Sri Tuolor initiated a poultry farm with local hens and ducks in the backyards of his residence. Though he has established the farm very recently without any assistance from any concerned department but has increased the number hens and ducks to more than hundred.

The youths mostly educated one also engaged themselves in any works be it construction of road side drains or painting of buildings etc. as daily worker instead of wasting time in seeking government jobs. Perhaps this is reason as to why the people of Retzawl village have become source of inspiration to many youths. During a visit to the village one can find no body in the village sitting idle, everyone choose to remain busy with any type of works.

GB Tuolor said earlier we used to go to department for assistance or encouragement but now we want to make such a condition that the concerned department would have to visit villages to observe our endeavor. Therefore I want to request the experts from the department not to sit tight in their offices rather visit the villages and encourage the farmers for systematic and scientific farming.
