    Haflong  :The  40th Incumbency Anniversary of Shri Lalringthang Hekte as Gaon Burah of New Zoar village was celebrated as the Ruby Jubilee on Thursday at New Zoar village near Mahur in Dima Hasao.

    The program was held to honor Shri Lalringthang Hekte as Gaon Burah of New Zoar village for his excellent village management for such a long period of glorious forty years.

    The Gaon Burah or village headman is the most respected person in a village and acts as the prime guardian of the entire village. The role of a GB in Dima Hasao has its own power and function to govern the village. Mostly, the Person with integrity is selected as the GB because he has to treat all the villagers as his family member without any discrimination. Though they are being paid a very nominal honorarium but have to face many problems also.

    The program was attended by Ngamrothang Hmar, Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomous Council as the Chief Guest, Anup Langthasa, Chairman, Mahur Town Committee as guest of honour and as many as GBs of surrounding 35 villages of Mahur.

    Lalringthang Hekte was felicitated with traditional ‘swal’ and citation by several organisations and individuals and prayed for his long life. 

    Talking to media Lalringthang Hekte said New Zoar village was established by his father in 1974 with only three families now 44 families are residing in this village with peace and brotherhood. He felt blessed to be the GB of New Zoar for 40 years.

    Earlier, Chief Guest EM Hmar unveiled a beautifully decorated memory stone in honor of Lalringthang Hekte at New Zoar village in presence of many prominent personalities.
