  • SC Issues Notice on Manish Sisodia’s Bail Plea

    Published on July 14, 2023

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued notice on the petitions filed by Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, seeking bail. Sisodia is in jail on allegations of his involvement on Delhi liquor policy scam.

A Bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Bela M Trivedi, and Ujjal Bhuyan has issued notice on Sisodia’s petitions. Additionally, they have also issued notice on an application filed by Sisodia, requesting interim bail to visit his ailing wife. The plea for interim bail will be considered on July 28. Sisodia has been in custody since February 26 of this year.

The bench heard two petitions filed by Sisodia challenging the decisions of the Delhi High Court, which denied him bail in the cases being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

Justice Khanna noted during the proceedings that the allegation was that the policy decision was made for improper reasons. Sisodia’s counsel, Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued that there was no evidence to support the allegations.

The matter will be taken up on July 28.
