    Published on November 23, 2010

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who will be in the city on 25th November to take part in a rally to celebrate 125 years of the party’s foundation, is likely to pay a visit to the historic Anand Bhavan -the ancestral home of Nehru-Gandhi family.

“Gandhi would reach K P college ground, the venue for the rally, around noon on Thursday by a special helicopter. After addressing the rally, she is likely to drive to Anand Bhavan where former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had spent their early years,” Uttar Pradesh Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters in Allahabad.

“After spending some time at the Anand Bhavan, which has been converted into a museum in 1970, Sonia would return to New Delhi,” she said.

This would be Gandhi’s first visit to the city after the Congress-led UPA returned to power following the Lok Sabha elections held last year.

The last time she came Allahabad was for addressing an election rally on 19th April, 2009.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements are in place in view of Gandhi’s visit.

A team of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) has already arrived in Allahabad and is taking stock of the places which the Congress leader is likely to visit.
