  • Standing Committee on Whistleblower Bill recommends inclusion of Council of Ministers, higher Judiciary

    The Standing Committee on the Whistleblower Bill has recommended inclusion of the Council of Ministers, higher Judiciary, Regulatory Authorities, Armed Forces and Intelligence agencies under the ambit of the Bill. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Chairman of the Standing Committee Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that they have also recommended a full proof mechanism to protect the identity of the complainant or the whistleblower. The Committee also suggested that the bill should consider complaints on events older than five years. The Committee also wants the quantum of punishment prescribed in the Bill for frivolous complaints to be substantially reduced. Mr Singhvi said that the proposed Bill is very significant initiative for encouraging complaints against the public servants.
