To pay tribute to her courage and strength ‘Nirbhaya’ will be posthumously bestowed with the ‘Stree Shakti’ award on 8th March, which is celebrated as International Women’s Day.

Also a number of events are being organised across the world to mark the achievements of women in various fields.

Extending greetings on the eve of International Women’s Day, the President Pranab Mukherjee stressed the need on ensuring safety and security of women, besides striving for a world based on gender equality and justice.

President Mukherjee congratulated the women of India for their monumental role in shaping the destiny of the nation.

The December 16 Delhi gang rape victim ‘Nirbhaya’ will be posthumously confered with the ‘Stree Shakti’ award on Friday as a tribute to her courage and strength.

Women and Child Development Ministry felt the ‘Spirit of Nirbhaya’ should be honoured with the ‘Stree Shakti’ awards, awarded every year to outstanding women of the country.

The family of Nirbhaya will receive the award from the President Pranab Mukherjee.

The Secretary of Women and Child Development Ministry, Mr Prem Narayan said that they are taking a number of measures to check violation against women.
