In Tamil Nadu, six people were killed in a blast at a workshop manufacturing fireworks at Mannarkudi in Tiruvarur district. The unit has been functioning for long, making a special kind of fireworks for use mostly in temples and during special occasions. Unexpectedly, the heap of explosive materials in the workshop caught fire leading to the blast whose impact has been felt up to more than a kilometre.

All six in the workshop were killed. Four bodies were ripped beyond recognition. Two more people who were nearby have been admitted into the hospital. Fire service personnel retrieved the bodies and sent them for autopsy. Revenue officials razed the damaged building to the ground in view of safety.
