Guwahati : The Water bomb crisis over river Siang in Arunachal Pradesh is over as the river peaked both at Passighat and subsided without crossing the danger level.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) authorities had been monitoring round the clock and said that dam breached water from China entered India at Tuting midnight, rose water up to seven metere but fell sharply by morning and similarly the water could be seen rising at Passighat by 1100 hours and fell sharply after that.Since Passighat is not crossing Warning Level, Chances of Dibrugarh in Dibrugarh district of Assam  crossing Danger Level is ruled out. River Brahmaputra at Dibrugarh may also come close to or just cross warning level only, said  CWC. So crisis is effectively over. The army , air force and civil administration made huge arrangement for any eventuality and more than 2000 first responders were ready drawing from NDRF, IAF and Army besides of District Administration. But luckily the Barrier dam slowly gave away giving the river Tsangpo and later Siang enough time to absorb that. The Water bomb threat in the Tsangpo-Siang reduces substantially as the Central Water Commission informed that Siang water rose steeply at midnight but started falling by morning at Tuting near the Indo China Border. This is only shows that water traveled faster than what was calculated earlier and had entered India around midnight and is now hurtling towards Passighat. India earlier estimated the water level to reach by noon today.According its latest tweet of thr CWC –  Water Level on river Siang at Tuting (Monitoring stn.) in Upper Siang dist. of Arunachal Pradesh at 0600 hrs is 413.05 m with falling trend which is 7.38m below its Highest Flood Level of 420.43m.Earlier  India estimated that water bomb will enter India at 1400 hours today at Imkiyong at the Indo –China border. But CWC Hydrograph says it entered last night itself as it recorded steep rise in midnight and steep fall by morning.A similar trend is now shown at Passighat where water level is fast going up and about to cross the danger level.Despite border tension, India and China had agreed to share water related information and thus by the China had been constantly informing India about the landslide triggered barrier dam. This has given India head start to prepare for possible devastation.Already Union minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had spoken to Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prema Khandu. The Cabinet Secretary last night held review meeting and the CWC was monitoring the situation from Delhi, Guwahati and Dibrugarh besides their ground stations of Arunachal Pradesh.

The CWC authorities comparing at the 2004 devastation of similar nature feels that this time damage should be less as 18000 CUSEC  or cubic feet per second of water is supposed to flow through Siang which is much less than 2004 devastation when 1,00,000 CUSEC water flowed through the river causing 40 ft wave but did not have any impact 210 km down at Passighat. With that example, the CWC official was keeping an eye on the river asking the riverine people, not to venture in the river.
