  • Three under trial prisoners of Mangaldai jail secured ranks in the State in BPP Exam under KKHSOP

    Mangaldai :  Mangaldai District Jail which is recently in the limelight for the unique literary culture shown by its under trial prisoners (UTP) consecutively for the last three years has achieved another remarkable feat on Tuesday when three of the convicts of the jail secured ranks in the top ten of the State in final results of the Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP) under KK Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) . Among them life convict  Arupjyoti Deka secured the first position with an aggregate of 80.33 percent and letter marks in English, Economics , Pol.Science and Sociology . On the other hand his jail mates  Dhrubajyoti Hazarika and Ilias Purti came out successful among the total of 3073 candidates across the state and got top sixth and tenth positions respectively . Dhrubajyoti scored an average of 73 percentage while Ilias remained slightly behind with average of 71 percent marks . They all appeared from the Study Centre of the KKHSOP set up in the district jail with support from Brilliant Academy Junior College . Apart from these three rank holders all the four other inmates who appeared in the exam came out successful .

    The news has delighted the jail inmates ,  the authority and other sensitive socio culture local organizations as Principal , DIET , Darrang , Madhab Sarma , office bearers of Mangaldai Media Circle including its adviser Bhargab Kr Das , Vice President Hemanta Kr Barua , Assistant Secretary Ganesh Dutta on Wednesday visited the jail and greeted all the rank holders each with a gamosa and book in presence in charge Superintendent and Election Officer Mangaldai  Antara Gogoi , Jailor Munindra Nath Sarma and other staff of the jail .

    According to Bipul Das of KKHSOU a total of 3073 candidates appeared in the exam from a total of 174 study centres in the state , out of which 1717 candidates came out successful with an aggregate pass percentage of 57 . Meanwhile many senior officials of the State including Inspector General of Prisons Ranjan Sarma stated to have congratulated all the successful candidates of the jail over phone and has promised to meet them within a short time .
