  • UP CM recommends CBI probe into alleged scam in Shia, Sunni Waqf boards in state

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recommended a CBI probe into alleged scam in Shia and Sunni Waqf boards in the state. Minister of state for Yogi AdityanathWaqf, Mohsin Raza, said in Lucknow that the Chief Minister has recommended a CBI probe into alleged scam worth crores in Shia and Sunni Waqf boards.

    Raza said scam worth crores has come to the fore in a probe by the Waqf Council of India.

    Our correspondent reports that Yogi Government has initiated to dissolve both Shia and Sunni Waqf boards. Nominated members of both the boards have been removed and notices have been issued to the Chairmen of the boards.

    There have been serious allegations of corruption against the boards related to their properties. The fact finding committee of the Central Waqf Council has indicted the then Minister Azam Khan of corruption, mismanagement and misuse of office. The fact-finding committee was constituted after the CWC had received several complaints from the State.

    The committee in its report has alleged that the then Minister had diverted funds from waqf properties to his Maulana Johar Ali Education Trust illegally.
