    Guwahati: The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked all the states including Northeast India to be cautious by issuing general advisory with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, officially in force.The division deals with the internal security and law and order situation in the northeastern states, dealing with the insurgency of various militant groups operating in that region, and matters relating to peace negotiations with such groups. The Northeast has a strategic place as far from other parts of the country as these states have borders with other countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China.The security situation in the northeastern states has been unstable as a result of the terrain, socio-economic development situation and historical facts such as language / caste, tribal enmity, migration, control over local resources and widespread sense of exploitation and diversion. As a result, violence has been spread by various Indian rebel groups and a wide range of demands have been made. A notification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, officially enacted, has ushered in a new phase of upheaval in Northeast India.

    For this reason, the Union Home Ministry has issued an alert about the possibility of a terrorist attack. Inputs from the Ministry of Home Affairs have raised fears of a terrorist conspiracy. High alert has been issued in many cities including Guwahati to deal with any potential threat. Protest against this bill has been going on in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland for the past several weeks amid protests.Various organizations are opposing the granting of Indian citizenship to foreign Hindus as they feel that this would be a threat to the local people of Assam. He appealed to the people for peace and said that people should be agitated There is no need. The Chief Minister said, ‘We will not take any decision against the people of Assam. We all have to ensure peace throughout the state and maintain people’s trust in the government.I appeal to everyone to maintain peace so that unpleasant situations do not arise in the state. However, people should continue to give their opinion. There have been protests against this law of All Assam Students Union (AASU) in the northeastern states and across the country.Other regional parties in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram, which formed the government with BJP support, have strongly protested against it. Northeast is the easternmost region of India that represents the geographical and political administrative division of the country.

    Meanwhile, the Central Government can give three months time to those applying to get citizenship of India in Assam after the revised Citizenship Act (CAA) comes into force. Officials gave this information on today.The Centre may give a relatively smaller window of just three months to those who want to apply for Indian citizenship in Assam under the newly-enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), officials said on Thursday.Some Assam specific provisions are expected to be incorporated in the rules to be issued for the implementation of the CAA.There is a possibility of giving a smaller window of just three months for those living in Assam to apply under the CAA, said an official privy to the development.The move came in view of the continuing protests against the CAA in Assam where protests have been going on since the legislation was passed by Parliament in December.The CAA rules are expected to be issued in next two weeks, the official said.Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah last week and made a request to keep a limited period window for applying under the CAA and also incorporate some other Assam specific provisions in the CAA rules.
