As her husband and US President Barack Obama was doing business, Michelle shook a leg and danced to the tune of a hit number from Aaamir Khan-starrer ‘Rang De Basanti’ in the company of school children on Saturday and also played hopscotch.

Bringing in a touch of compassion and social care to the presidential visit, Michelle’s time out with 30 children, some of whom were orphaned and from an underprivileged background, came at the library of Mumbai University where she also interacted with them.

During her half-hour interaction, Michelle, dressed in a coffee coloured brown top and multi-coloured skirt, spoke to the kids and inspired them to reach greater heights.

“I love dancing,” she told the kids. “You are very lucky and blessed. I also have two children,” she said.

“Working hard, studying and having courage are the important things in life. I also studied hard in my life. I never thought I will become the first lady. But when I got a chance, I was prepared for it because of education. You can be successful and smart with education,” she said at the programme organised by NGO ‘Making A Difference’.

The children danced with the First Lady and played hopscotch with her.

She spelt words like Washington D.C. and happiness and answered questions like Father of India, capital of US which were asked by the children to complete the hopscotch game.

The children also clapped and cheered her.

Hopscotch is an age-old children’s hopping game based on an idea of not treading on lines.

It can be played on a bare patch of ground or on a floor indoors where a design of squares are drawn.

She also invited queries from students.

A girl told her that after meeting the First Lady, her dreams have come true. Michelle responded, saying “No. You are my dream. We are very proud of you.”

“President Obama is trying to make this world better so that kids like you can get better opportunities,” she said.

Michelle asked the kids to work hard and “educate yourselves.”

She signed autographs on their hands and shirts and danced with them once again to the ‘Rang De Basanti’ title song.

“Dancing with her was the best part of the programme. I have even taken her autograph, she was very nice” Sagar Jadhav (12) who is associated with NGO “Make A Difference” (MAD) said.

“She was a very kind woman and I never thought I would get chance to meet her. We have heard about her from our father,” Jadhav said.

Johny David (13) who also danced with her and played drums said he was very much impressed by her talk.

“I am going to tell all my friends about the programme and she was like adream for me. I have learnt from her that education is important in life,” he said.

Michelle Obama was welcomed by Mumbai University students and Vice-Chancellor Rajan Welukar.

A group of University students MUNIJAN (Mumbai University New Initiative for Joint Action) welcomed her.
