Mangaldai : On the eve of the celebration of World Environment Day , the Minister of State for Health and Urban Development , Assam , Piyush Hazarika has hinted on putting ban on use of plastics in the towns of the State . The minister was talking to media in Kharupetia town of Darrang district on Tuesday sidelining his several official programmes . He said that the process for putting ban on the use of plastics have already started and they have issued letters to the authorities of all the civic bodies across the State to make the necessary arrangements . “ The government has already started the process and in this connection letters have been issued to the all the civic bodies to do their part . We are also going to introduce Act in this regard , however the most important is the public awareness .”,Hazarika reiterated . Similarly he said that necessary enforcing Laws against throwing of used tobaccos , its empty packets, spitting and littering of public places will soon be brought into force and at the same time he stressed public sensitivity as the top priority . Earlier the minister ceremonially opened the distribution of revolving fund under Urban Livelihood Mission amounting Rs 25,000 each to a total of fifty five SHGs under Kharupetia Municipality Board and also inaugurated the first out of the 625 steel made new public toilets of the State .The function was also attended by several prominent persons including newly elected Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia , Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das and Chairperson of Kharupetia Municipal Board Krishna Saha among others .
