  • The Government plans to augment the road construction projects in the Maoist-affected areas for better connectivity and development.

    Projects covering a length of over 4,200 kilometers in these areas will be awarded in the current fiscal.

    This was revealed by Road Transport and Highways Minister Dr C P Joshi while addressing the Consultative Committee meeting attached to his Ministry in New Delhi.

    He said the projects would provide an efficient communication network for the remote areas to combat the extremists activities in the border tribal districts of the states and also help in social uplift of tribal people.

    Dr Joshi said that so far, the Government has already awarded projects covering a length of over 3,300 km worth over Rs 3800 crore. The minister said that his ministry is committed to the task of developing roads in these areas in a planned and phased manner.
