  • Cabinet briefed on ISRO Devas multimedia deal, sets high powered comm

    Union Cabinet on Thursday briefed about ISRO and Devas multimedia deal for lease of scarce S-band spectrum.

    This was stated by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister in New Delhi after the union cabinet meet.

    The government has also set up a high powered review committee to study the deal between ISRO’s commercial wing Antrix and Devas multimedia.

    The committee will submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister as minister in-charge of the Department of space within a month.

    Former Cabinet Secretary B K Chaturvedi is one of the members of the committee.

    The panel will look into the commercial, technical, procedural and financial aspects. It will also look into the adequacy of procedures and approvals by ISRO, department of space and to suggest improvements and changes.

    BJP objects

    Meanwhile, BJP has objected to the name of B K Chaturvedi in the panel to review ISRO Devas deal.

    Talking to media in New Delhi, party spokesperson, Nirmala Sitaraman added that he was cabinet secretary at the time of the deal and questioned his inclusion.
