  • CBI seizes Rs 23 lakh from former deputy secretary Deshmukh

    The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seized Rupees 23 lakh in cash from the Thane residence of former deputy secretary of the urban development department, PV Deshmukh. Deshmukh, who owns a flat in the Adarsh housing society, is one of the 13 named in the CBI’s first information report (FIR) filed in the land scam case last Saturday.

    A CBI official said that besides 23 lakh rupees the agency has also recovered certain documents, hard disk and laptop from Deshmukh’s residence. Meanwhile, the CBI also issued summons to three main accused in the Adarsh Housing Society scam asking them to appear before it by Friday. According to CBI sources, summons were issued to Adarsh society’s general secretary R C Thakur, retired Brigadier M M Wanchoo and Congress leader K L Gidwani.
