  • Centre to give a special package under Indra Aawas Yojna to construct houses in flood hit Uttarakhand

    UtrakhandUnion Rural Development Ministry has announced a special package under Indira Awas Yojana for flood affected Uttarakhand.

    In a letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna Friday, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said his ministry has doubled the allocation of housing units by adding another 14 thousand.

    Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde also announced that the Centre would provide more funds to Uttarakhand for rehabilitation and restoration of infrastructure damaged by flash floods.

    He said that priority is being given to evacuate the stranded people.

    Meanwhile, rescue operations for those stranded after June 16 flash floods and landslides have entered their last leg.

    About 2,000 people stranded at Badrinath and Pithoragarh are likely to be evacuated by tomorrow.

    Vice chairman NDMA Shashidhar Reddy said that Border Road Organization has been told to provide the new tracks for the purpose.
