  • Cong steers clear of demand for Balakrishnan’s resignation

    Published on February 28, 2011

Congress has steered clear of the demands for former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan resigning as NHRC’s chairperson in the wake of income tax dept finding black money trail to his relatives.

“I do not think I have anything to say. The matter is between that statutory commission and the government. Some people have given their views. Congress has no need to comment on it,” party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi on Monday.

Former Chief Justice J S Verma has asked Balakrishnan to quit as NHRC chief in the wake of the sensational disclosure by the income tax department.

Verma has said that it was for Balakrishnan to come clean on the allegations that his relatives suddenly became rich during his term at the helm in the apex court.
